August Catch Up

Hi there, Reader

It's that time of the month again and isn't summer flying by? I don't want it to end and yet I'm excited for fall and pumpkin season. My favorite time of year!

We have been loving fig season this month. I say "we" because Charlie loves them and somehow knows the minute they become ripe. He does his very best to get to them before me. Evidence 👇

There have been some new fig recipes recently and I'm sure you'll be seeing some apple recipes coming your way in the not too distant future because my trees are absolutely loaded with fruit this year.

If you have any apple-y requests let me know! I'll have plenty to recipe test with and what's left will keep my juicer busy.

I'm still loving my slow juicer and I've asked Hurom for an exclusive discount just for you. Get $100 off any Hurom juicer if you purchase through my link and use the code HUROM50LEGACY (until Sept 3rd).

Let's take a look back at some of this month's highlights on AVV!

AUGUST'S MOST POPULAR RECIPE 🏆

Wow, this recipe has been on fire this month! 🔥🔥

Ginny says: "So good! I had a huge cinnamon roll craving but was too lazy to go buy one (plus the nearest vegan one is $7!) This recipe totally took care of my craving and was so easy, unlike other single serving recipes I was looking at making." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Liz says: "I bake the real deal cinnamon rolls, yeast and all and sell them weekly at our farmers market. I sell upwards of 20 dozen in three hours. So I know cinnamon rolls well. Just like another review said, keep your expectations real, these are made in a microwave. They were way better than I imagined! My husband couldn't eat his fast enough. I almost felt insulted that he liked these so much. They are good and gives me a break from making large batches of cinnamon rolls just for us. We make these together on Saturday morning and eat them out on our deck with coffee. What a great way to start a day! Thank you for these beauties." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sara says: "Oh, hello! How have I never made a cinnamon roll in the microwave before?? It was DELICIOUS and super easy.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

RECIPES PUBLISHED/UPDATED IN AUGUST

(in case you missed them the 1st time around)

THINGS I'M LOVING ❤️

Mississippi Vegan's Fried Caper Panzanella. If you can get your hands on some delicious heirloom tomatoes I recommend giving it a try.

Bee Mindful Hunnie and Hunnie Hot. If you loved honey before you were vegan this is for you. It's from a vegan, woman-owned company, and it's organic and made sustainably from rescued/fallen apples that would otherwise have gone to waste.

(If you live in BC you should be able to find it locally).

"Whoever would have thought to put Frank's hot sauce in a mac-n-cheese dish? This is amazing! I give it five stars." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️" - Bob.

"This is beyond delicious!!! I made this soup in no time at all and the first thing that came to mind when I tasted it was "velvet". So smooth and flavorful; an elegant party in my mouth. I did share with family and they all had the same reaction. One of the best soups I have ever made and soups are my specialty...." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️" - Mary Ann.

"After reading your July catch up email I was going to make the Hummingbird cake. As there were no ripe bananas at my local shop I decided on the cheesecake. Wow, this is a great recipe, beautiful texture and tastes delicious. The berry compote is on the stove now and will top it off beautifully. Sorry, I couldn't wait until it was cold to try it 😁" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️" - Jackie.

"Made these little gems at home to take on an upcoming camping trip and they were fantastic!" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️" - Cheryl.

THIS MONTH'S 5⭐️ READS 📖

These are my 5-star reads this month (if you didn't know I'm a huge bookworm!):

  • Piglet by Lottie Hazell (This one doesn't have the greatest of reviews but I LOVED it, especially as a foodie. There are lots of descriptions of non-vegan food so don't read it if that bothers you).
  • The Passengers by John Marrs (I could not put this one down and will be seeking his other books out stat!)
  • The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. Not my usual genre (It's a fictional biography about an 18th-century midwife), but I really enjoyed it.

Hi there, Reader It's that time of the month again and it's officially fall. I love this time of year when summer produce is still around but things are also starting to feel a little cozy. I've been working on some great fall recipes that I can't wait to start sharing. There are 2 pumpkin ones that I'm particularly excited about. One savoury and one sweet. They'll be winging their way to you soon but until then, let's take a look back at some of this month's highlights on AVV! SEPTEMBER'S...

Hi there, Reader Spicy Chickpea Smash! So simple to make with only 3 ingredients (plus salt & pepper). You can have a batch made up in minutes! Put it in sandwiches and wraps, dollop it on a pile of greens or a baked potato. It's so yummy! My current fave way to eat it is as per the pic. On toast, with avocado, sprouts of some kind, a good drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, and lots of cracked black pepper. Click here for the recipe! Hi there, Reader Apple season is here! I love this time of year and you really can't beat the smell of anything apple-y cooking. So good! Whether you've got your own apple trees, you're heading to the apple orchards for a fun day out, or you can't resist the inexpensive bags of apples at the grocery store, these recipes are some of my favorite ways to use them up!
